Your Skin and the Environment

If you didn’t already know, the SKIN is the largest organ in the body and because of this it has many functions. One of the major functions is to protect us from environmental stressors that we come across on a daily basis. What a big job right! We often worry about what we eat and what we put on our skin, but we tend to neglect the effects the environment has on our skin.
This can range from ultraviolet radiation, environmental pollutants and seasonal weather changes. Small amount of exposure will not do any harm however, prolonged exposure will start to cause trauma and become visible. One of the most common skin issues in Australia is pigmentation and skin cancers, usually due to prolonged sun exposure. In some cases, short term exposure can lead to long term damage.

You wouldn’t guess it but, a walk to shops can turn into a full-blown break out. Reason being a simple thing like dust particles can sit on the skin and disturb the skin microbiome. Skin Microbiome is a community of skin loving microorganisms that sit on the skin and keep it healthy. Think of the microbiome as skin soldiers, if they are disrupted in this case by the dust and pollutants like smoke, they get weak and allow not so friendly organisms like bacteria to inhibit. This has a chain effect on the skin causing clogged pores, congestion and eventually acne like breakouts. Regular cleansing, exfoliating and using an antioxidant serum can help protect your skin and minimise clogged pores and breakouts.

Our Go-To skincare products which will exfoliate and provide protection against environmental factos are (and not limited to) Aspect  Exfol-L,  Asepct Purastat 5 Cleanser, and Dr Aspect Active C Serum.
