What is HIFU?
HIFU stands for “High intensity focused ultrasound”. It is advanced cosmetic technology that significantly tightens and lifts several areas of the face. It also reduces signs of aging and improves the tone of the skin in a single session.
How does it work?
A cone of ultrasound is used to transmit energy through the skin and is customised at different depths. It uses thermal, cavitational and micro injury to remodel and make new collagen. The skin is lifted, looks remarkably younger, and has a noticeably healthy colour and glow.
What is involved in the treatment?
HIFU is virtually painfree. The treatment takes around an hour for both face and neck.
Face procedures use 1.5 (dermis) 3.0 (deep dermis) and 4.5mm (SMAS layer). When treating unwanted fat on the body it utilises depths of 6, 9 and 11mm.
How long does it last?
Two treatments are recommended to obtain optimal results, which last approximately 12 – 18 months. Maintenance sessions can be done every 1-2 years.
Is HIFU better than fillers?
HIFU will lift and tighten loose skin by stimulating collagen production. Fillers will replace lost volume. It’s often best to use them both in combination to achieve optimal results.
Does HIFU reduce face fat?
The HIFU also helps with reducing the appearance of excess fats on areas such as the jowls, double chin and cheeks. HIFU utilises ultrasound energy to tighten the skin and reduce unwanted facial fats in certain areas.
I’ve tried HIFU before but it did not work?
The reason why HIFU alone didn’t work well for you is because you might have more sagging skin due to severe collagen loss and may require more sessions or you will need more than HIFU alone to get good results.
How long does HIFU take to show results?
You can expect to see results from HIFU 12 weeks after treatment, with further improvements in problem areas being reported for up to 6 months.
Can I do HIFU if I have fillers?
You can still get cosmetic injectables before or after HIFU, we recommend waiting 2-4 weeks before or after having fillers or Botox to undergo a HIFU treatment.
